We’ve all been there. Nothing is going your way, and you can feel the anger and frustration begin to grow. But as the irritation bubbles inside, you have a choice. Do you seethe and sit silently, attempting to push it down, or do you crash out? Here are the top five Nobles crash out moments:
5. It’s between class blocks, and the library is bustling. As the clock approaches class time, the library begins to empty through the glass doors. You patiently wait your turn in the long line of people congested in the vestibule entrance, slowly attempting to shuffle out through the one small door. Finally, you make it to the exit, glancing down at the home screen on your phone in an attempt to seem busy. Without looking up, you take the door from the person ahead of you and pass it behind you like a good citizen. SPLASH! You forgot about the sizable puddle that constantly accumulates outside the doorway. The water seeps into your shoes, and your socks begin to dampen as you make your way across campus.
4. You’ve finally settled into the perfect spot in the Quiet Room. A picturesque view of the beautiful campus stretches before you as you lay out the mountain of work you must complete in the next 70 minutes. It will be a tight squeeze, but the silent environment of this sacred space is ideal for high productivity and deep focus. Your friend enters the Quiet Room and waves to you, softly pulling the door closed behind them. But, as you look on in horror, they leave the door slightly ajar! Suddenly, the sound of voices fills the once-silent environment. A large group of kids stands outside the door, screaming and laughing. You attempt to refocus, looking down at the stack of papers before you. But as you tackle the next problem, your mind is again drawn to the noise coming from outside. You debate getting up to close the door but don’t want to seem aggressive toward the people outside. You settle for putting your hands over your ears and waiting in silent agony until the next person enters.
3. It’s a Thursday in the middle of winter. After what felt like the most brutal practice, all you want to do is get home, tuck into your warm bed, and sleep. You exit the side door of the MAC and take your first few steps into the night. It’s only 5 p.m., but the sun has long since set, and it feels like forever since you’ve felt warmth. The wind bites at your face as you zip your jacket and head toward the MAC parking lot. Then it hits you. You got stuck in traffic this morning and arrived at school at 7:58 a.m. With no time to park, you settled for a spot in North Lot, thinking you’d just get a ride from one of your friends. But it’s too late now. You took your time getting changed, and all your teammates left. You’re stuck making the trek up to North.
2. Honors Physics.
1. Your eyes scan the Quiet Room chairs, looking for an empty seat to grab. As you look around, you realize you shouldn’t have stopped at the school store on the way. The homework due next period, which you put off thinking, “It’s fine, I have Community Time,” is weighing down your backpack as you dash from meeting room to meeting room, knowing in your heart that they’re all taken but checking anyway. The stress of your work is building as you head for the Academic Center, hoping to find an open classroom. But again, no luck. Groups of freshmen and sophomores fill the classrooms, shrieking and doodling on the whiteboards like creatively-minded chimpanzees. You head over to Shattuck as a last resort and walk down the hall, peeking through each door. Naturally, the number of students at Nobles has magically tripled, and they’ve all decided to congregate in classrooms. Out of luck, you run over to Baker and dart down the stairs. “No one is ever down here,” you think jubilantly as you round the corner, only to find middle schoolers in class. With nowhere else to go, you decide to brave the downstairs of Shattuck—the one under Gleason. The dim lighting and winding halls start to mess with your mind as you finally find an empty classroom to begin working in. You glance over at the clock… 10:37 a.m.!
