There is an epidemic plaguing the Nobles campus. It has crept from the freshman alcoves, across the library, and into the parked cars of North. Its spread is unrivaled and its effects are drastic. No, this isn’t norovirus. It’s Brawl Stars.
Brawl Stars, a mobile game released in 2018, has reached its peak on the Nobles campus almost seven years later. The game pits different characters (brawlers) with varying abilities against each other in different modes of gameplay, including Brawl Ball (a soccer-like game in which players need to score goals while fighting off opponents), Gem Grab (a complex game in which players need to obtain gems and stay alive), and Showdown (a team battle royale in a constantly shrinking arena).
All somebody needs to do is visit the freshman boys’ alcoves to hear how serious this game can get. Yet, in the midst of competition, it can be hard to separate a simple recreational player from the very best. Thus, The Nobleman has compiled a list of the Top 4 Brawl Stars players living among us on the Nobles campus.
4. Faris Dawes
Username: pretzel
Favorite brawler: Otis
Strengths: Win streaks
Weaknesses: “I have no weaknesses”
Craziest place you’ve played: Church service
Brawl Stars screentime: 7 hours 17 minutes
Player Description: Faris has almost as much confidence as he does hours on the game. He claims he’s the best in the school, but he had the least trophies out of the players interviewed.
3. Dylan Kovacs
Username: (づ ̅ 3 ̅ )づ
Favorite brawler: Dynamike
Strengths: Teamwork
Weaknesses: “Controlling the pace of the game”
Craziest place you’ve played: Thanksgiving dinner
Brawl Stars screentime: 6 hours 56 minutes
Player Description: A fresh new face to the Nobles Brawl scene, Dylan was eager to inform us that he was once the 60th-best player in the nation.
2. Toby Gauld
Username: cntrl
Favorite brawler: Buster
Strengths: Knowing the right brawler for the situation
Weaknesses: “Sometimes I get kinda lazy”
Craziest place you’ve played: Massachusetts State House
Brawl Stars screentime: 5 hours 52 minutes
Player Description: The silent killer of Nobles’ Brawl Stars community. The only thing holding him back from the number one spot is that “sometimes he gets kinda lazy” while playing the exhausting game.
1. Will Eckford
Username: willeggford
Favorite brawler: Stu or Dynamike
Strengths: “Blockage breaking” and Brawl Ball strategy
Weaknesses: Aim
Brawl Stars screentime: “3-4 hours a day”
Craziest place you’ve played: During a performance on the Symphony Hall stage
Player Description: Undisputed unc of Nobles Brawl. Although he says he doesn’t play as much as he used to, he used to log more hours than everyone else on the list combined. Once pulled a Brawl Stars all-nighter.
After learning a little more about these inspirational figures, it’s possible that the non-brawlers have been looking at this “epidemic” wrong the whole time. Instead of killing social skills and a chance at future romance, this game could teach us valuable lessons, like how to get the most mega pig victories. In the end, maybe we all need to increase our Brawl knowledge just a little bit.
