As any returning student knows, Halloween at Nobles is more than a holiday—it is a challenge of creativity and style. Some diehard competitors have been scheming away at their costumes since arriving on campus in September. But of course, not all of us can be quite that prepared. If push comes to shove and October 28 sneaks up, leaving you still sorely lacking in costume ideas, try some of these to wow and inspire.

  1. Cafe 2000 

The resurgence of Y2K fashion provides students with a valuable opportunity to combine style trends with iconic school symbols. Who among us has not enjoyed an ice-cold chocolate milk after a strenuous practice? It is high time someone pays tribute to the invaluable Cafe 2000 down at the Morrison Athletic Center (MAC) with a costume. Bonus points for genius wordplay (if I do say so myself.)

What you’ll need: 

  • Velour tracksuit (preferably Juicy, definitely bedazzled)
  • Replace your backpack with a sparkly handbag that can fit a small dog and nothing else
  • Complete the cafe ambiance with a latte (and optional beret)
  1. Ryan Sanghavi (Class I)

Pay homage to everyone’s favorite Editor-in-Chief by dressing up as Sanghavi this Halloween. This costume is a great way to stay casual and still embrace the school spirit, exemplified perfectly by Sanghavi.

What you’ll need:

  • Your favorite pair of khakis
  • Hand me downs from Jake Sanghavi (N ‘20)
  • For an extra touch of glamour, hold off on sleep for a few days
  1. The game of chess

Marking almost a year since chess became cool again with the release of Netflix’s “Queen’s Gambit,” fans could prove their devotion by dressing up as the game of chess itself. Plus, if you lean towards Chess Club over Weiqi Club, there is no better show of loyalty.

What you’ll need:

  • Odds are if you graduated middle school, you have at some point acquired a pair of black and white checkered slip-on Vans that now sit, dusty and slightly brown, in the back of a closet that never gets cleaned. Wear them as an easy way to emulate the iconic chessboard pattern.
  • Become the most powerful piece on the board by simply donning a crown. Girlboss.
  1. Class I and II Athlete

Recruitment is on many Nobles minds as juniors and seniors start committing to college this fall. Represent your favorite star player with ease this Halloween season.
