Do you remember the AI-generated images Dr. Hall presented at assembly last year of Shattuck Reimagined? You likely noticed Tobias Rabinovich, donning a red hoodie with short sleeves and lurking in the background of every image.
His fashion-forward signature style has even been copied by some current big names, including Michael Jackson, who sported a red hoodie with short sleeves last week. Given that he’s been a senior for the past two years, one could say Toby has a prominent presence at Nobles. In the Shattuck images, Rabinovich can be seen chatting it up with his seemingly endless band of friends in the new cafe, cruising through the pristine alcoves, and strutting along the sidewalks on the Beach. Toby R can be found in every nook and cranny at Nobles … except for one place: the classroom.
It is certainly uncanny how the one image of a new Shattuck classroom is completely desolate, a very noticeable absence of any Rabinovich. This is likely why he is starting his senior year for the second time.
When asked why he is not in the photo, Toby said, “I guess you could say I got lowkey cooked last year because I never went to class.”
Although Rabinovich does not dominate academically, he is a vision of the Nobles core values and is a crucial member of the community. The following is a breakdown of each value and how Toby embodies them.
Rabinovich is quite the curious fellow. A few of his friends who graduated last year without him look back fondly on their time spent with Rabinovich.
“Bro showed a ton of curiosity about me and my life, especially when it came to the details of my credit card number,” said one friend, who laughed nervously as she rummaged in her pockets for her wallet, only to find it was gone.
The Nobleman notes that a suspicious figure wearing a red shirt was seen scampering away in the background, holding a small rectangular item.
Rabinovich also embodies respect, as corroborated by Mathematics Faculty Anna Dolan.
“When Toby was in my 9th-grade Geometry class, he always asked if he could go to the restroom respectfully. He would return to class some 40 minutes later, ready to respectfully engage with the course material,” Dolan said.
Truly, what a guy.
Anyone ambling around campus can certainly testify to Rabinovich’s playful side, too. Nobles Librarian Talya Sokoll affectionately compares Rabinovich to Hansel from the Brothers’ Grimm fairytale, Hansel and Gretel.
Sokoll said, “Rabinovich likes to leave a trail of crumbs behind him wherever he goes.”
This playful path Rabinovich has so gracefully and carefully deposited around campus has even helped Dr. Hall trace his whereabouts so she can capture the candids of him exemplifying Nobles values for Shattuck Reimagined at her leisure.
Rabinovich, the quintessential core values student, could not be more generous. In fact, this past September, he graciously shared his cold with fifty different Nobles students, which was much appreciated by them all, as it allowed them to miss school! Juli Smith (Class III) praised Rabinovich for his selflessness almost excessively, to the point where The Nobleman had to remind her to calm down.
“This old and germy senior in my math class kept coughing in my face two weeks ago, which was disgusting, and I caught whatever foul plague he had,” Smith fervently said.
Rabinovich’s connection to the value of belonging is self-evident. He belongs at Nobles and has belonged for the past five years! He also makes sure everyone around him feels like they belong. For instance, when Roger Zhou (Class IV) felt out of place on his first day at Nobles, Rabinovich made him feel welcome.
“There was this random senior who came to freshman orientation. He gave me a high-five, asked how my summer was, and then asked me for five dollars,” Zhou said.
Tobias Rabinovich has earned his spot in every single one of the Shattuck Reimagined photos, without a doubt. When (or if) he graduates this spring, the Nobles community will embark upon a solemn mourning period, which means that on the last day of school, everyone should wear a black hoodie with short sleeves.
